Interpreting Candidate Assessment Results

The OAE uses scaled scores to summarize and report candidate performance. A scaled score is a conversion of the numerical raw score achieved on the assessment to a score in the predetermined range used for each assessment. Scaled scores are used to ensure consistency in reporting and considering scores from assessments that comprise different numbers and types of questions but display an overall similarity of use and purpose. The scoring scale for the OAE program is a 100 to 300 scale, with passing scores for each assessment set by the State Board of Education.

Data Reporting to Institutions of Higher Education That Prepare Educators

Institutions will be able to evaluate the performance of their candidates—individually or in aggregate—by using ResultsAnalyzer®, a data analysis tool provided for the program. Authorized users at an institution will be able to access a secure reporting website to view, analyze, reorganize, download, and print rosters and reports based on assessment results data and on background information gathered during test registration. Using ResultsAnalyzer®, institutions can examine their candidate performance at assessment domains that are aligned with the Ohio educator standards and Common Core State Standards.

The ResultsAnalyzer® tool will allow users to access candidate, assessment, and program data, giving them the capability to:

  • Create relevant and timely reports on candidate and institution assessment results
  • Customize data queries to align with institution goals and areas of interest
  • Aggregate performance data across testing program years
  • Export data to Microsoft® Excel or other report software and print graphics
  • Analyze candidate and institution data for numerous variables (including self-reported data such as gender and ethnicity)
